Suber Aqilyare

Suber Aqilyare is an investor and entrepreneur with several successful exits from healthcare businesses in the United States. After building and selling those businesses, he now invests for the long term in agriculture, real estate and operating companies. He looks for durable enterprises, holds them patiently and backs strong leadership to run them.

His commitment to the Somali Region of Ethiopia is personal. Born and raised in the United States, he traces his roots to Degehabur, and he has seen at close range the gap between the region’s potential and the opportunities available to its people: children who enroll in school but never learn to read, graduates without a path to skilled work, herders whose livelihoods vanish in a single drought, and traders with no access to the capital that would let them grow. These inequalities are not inevitable. They are the result of decades of underinvestment, and they can be closed.

He founded SEED to close them. He brings to that work the skills of an operator and an investor: building organizations from nothing, judging what works and what does not, putting capital behind durable ideas, and holding to a long horizon. His focus is on practical, measurable solutions that give people in the region the means to improve their own lives, and on institutions that will outlast their founders and serve the Somali people for generations.

Suber holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of St. Thomas.
